A kitchen and adjoining living area transformed with dark cabinetry, light countertops and a design that works with the room’s exposed ceiling beams.
The original space combines wood cabinetry, a brick fireplace and prominent ceiling beams. In the finished view, dark cabinetry and light countertops create contrast, while pendant and recessed lighting brighten the kitchen. The beams remain a defining feature of the adjoining living area.
This GTex kitchen remodel in San Antonio’s 78216 area connects the cooking space with the adjoining living area. The before-and-after photographs show how new finishes can change a room while keeping a strong existing feature: the exposed ceiling beams.
The finished kitchen combines dark cabinetry, light countertops, a light backsplash, stainless-steel appliances and pendant lighting. The contrast continues across the island and perimeter cabinets. Recessed lights supplement the pendants, and the open view into the living area makes the relationship between the two spaces easy to see.
The project is useful inspiration when planning cabinet colors, countertop contrast and lighting together. The photos show the completed appearance; the layout and construction scope for another home need an individual assessment.

Dark cabinet finishes and light work surfaces define the kitchen. Review cabinet storage and the countertop layout together before finalizing selections.
Pendant lights over the island and recessed ceiling lights complement the exposed beams. Lighting placement should be coordinated with the cabinet and appliance plan.
